Did you already check the gateways log file that you are connected to the AOL IM Community? (Something like "now connected to AOL IM")
If you run a netstat -na on the gateway, do you see the AOL server connected to your gateway to port 5061?
If there is no connection from AOL it would explain, why you cannot initiate the session from an AOL client. Then it´s probably I kind of misconfiguration at AOL.
But I wonder that you have to restart your sametime environment from time to time - I made the experience that I have to reconnect to my ST Community with my ST Client, but it was never necessary to restart the complete environment.
